MERCURY/CHARLOTTE SHOWCASE:
CAMEL ONE AND FAZED
THE CHARLOTTE, LEICESTER
REVIEW BY DAVE DAVIES
10:30 - 11 June 2004
Camel One immediately took things up several notches with
Hammond organ-driven gusto, displaying bags of energy, a
full sound and a bit of much-needed stage presence.
They kept up the energy levels with quirky bass and polyrhythmic
drumming, before easing down into their third song, an intriguing,
more laid-back 60s-influenced piece of pastoral psychedelic
pop whimsy.
From here on, they moved further and further from my expected
Charlatans/Doors Hammond-dominated sound, into a sound with
hints of a more 70s theatrical rock feel.
Howard Bliss, Lush FM
"Possibly the most exciting band in Leicester at the
moment, great songs and big sound"
