New Hole In Her Head are a unit of four parts, producing
epic, emotionally charged, densely layered neo-rock. Based
in their imaginations, contained in their heads. Drawing
on many influences to create their unique sound, blending
the driving arid groove of Kyuss's guitar sound with the
epic and progressive dynamics of Tool, Quicksand's off kilter
defiance and The Cure and Depeche Mode's damaged but uplifting
synthphonic melody. Amusingly the band keep being asked
if they got the name from a porn movie, but alas it is not
so, and no, they are not named after Prince's song 'Another
New Hole In Her Head' either (not that it would be uncool
if they were). The name is actually derived from a passage
out of William Gibson's cyberpunk novel Count Zero, (page
54 paragraph 3 line 3). Accusations of it being misogynistic
are hastily dismissed by the band as it is actually intended
- albeit sardonically - to convey an expansion in awareness,
or a metaphor for something of such repetitive concern that
it feels like it's burning a hole in your mind - like a
good song. Their aim is to provide fuel for the listeners
mind hoping that the music will provoke and stimulate both
physically & intellectually, but as long as the music
takes you somewhere they are happy to provide the soundtrack
for the journey.
