We're Shy Zandra,
We consist of drums, bass and 12-string guitar and try
to play loudly
through hitting the instruments as hard as possible, rather
than simply
relying on electronic manipulation of the sound. Our songs
are short so as to remain 'ditties', and we have a thorough
commitment to the Midlands tradition of tunefulness.
We both love and hate our hometown in equal
proportion - its parochial attitudes and deadeningly standard
view of the
future kill us day to day, though the flecks of beauty found
in its canals,
old factories and the loyal commitment of its people are
what keep us
grounded.
We draw our influences from many sources whether it be
recent music like Pixies, Captain Beefheart, Erase Errata,
the Mars Volta and Richard
Thompson, or older materials such as Woody Guthrie and Rosevelt
Sykes.
The Songs are inspired by the swans on the canal, dreams,
battles with
religious imagery, Exposition of truth and girls.
The band name (and message) is a representation of individualism
and freedom of speech: don't stay shy, let your voice be
heard and above all play loud and play what you feel.
